History of our work in Peru

Edukid started work in Peru 2022, after the Bishop of Peru asked Edukid to work with him in the Amazon Rainforest, specifically with the local Indigenous Awajun Community.

Although school is free in Peru, many of these families could not afford clothes and a meal each day, meaning some of the children were finding it hard to stay awake during lessons. Many of the children had also travelled far from their home village to attend the primary school and were living alone because they could not afford the journey each day.

Edukid works alongside the local community and now provides daily nutritional meal to students at school, as well as working to establish safer accommodation for students living alone.

Our work is a partnership

We believe that sustainable, effective support for students must be shaped by those who truly understand the local context. That’s why we partner with Ministerio Puente – a trusted, organisation in Peru. The Ministerio Puente team lives and works within the community, building relationships and gaining a genuine understanding of the daily challenges and opportunities faced by the young people we support.

Rather than imposing outside or ‘Western’ solutions, we are committed to listening to and learning from local voices. By working with Ministerio Puente, we ensure that our projects are culturally relevant, respectful, and based on the real needs identified by the community itself. This partnership model helps ensure long-term impact, as the support we offer is built on local knowledge, trust, and mutual respect.
