Food and Nutrition

As part of Edukids aim to break down the barriers to education, we focus on addressing one of the most pressing challenges faced by children in our projects: Hunger.

Food and Nutritional support

Edukid believes that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and thrive, but for many, the lack of adequate nutrition stands in the way of accessing quality education. Our holistic approach to educational support recognises that a hungry child cannot focus, learn, or reach their full potential.

Through our food and nutrition projects, we are committed to providing balanced meals and sustainable food solutions to schools and communities in need. By ensuring that children receive the nourishment they require, we aim to create an environment where they can concentrate on their studies and achieve their dreams.

Our work in Peru

Despite education being free in Peru, many children attend school without sufficient food, leading to stunted growth, poor health, low concentration levels and low academic performance. The food insecurity faced by families within our project  results in children surviving on minimal meals, sometimes only one boiled potato per day or just three meals per week. This lack of proper nutrition hinders children’s ability to focus and succeed in school, perpetuating a cycle of poverty and poor health.

To remove this barrier, Edukid provides school meals to feed the entire school population. By ensuring that the students receive a balanced, nutritious meal each day in school, this project will provide students with the energy they need to not only focus on their education, but also to grow and thrive. Providing a daily meal at school for the children removes the financial pressure on families, allowing them to conserve their limited resources.

Our work in Uganda

Many of the children we support in Uganda survive on one meal or less a day. As a result, many children have stunted growth and are more vulnerable to ill-health.

To tackle this, Edukid provides additional support to the most vulnerable families, through providing emergency food supplies, as well as long-term support with livestock like goats, chickens, and cows.

We also work with local communities to develop sustainable farming practices, with a focus on planting fruit trees. These trees offer a reliable source of food year-round and produce enough yield to help families generate income.

Through our emergency response projects, we provide emergency food supplies to take care of families immediate nutritional needs. You can read more about our emergency response projects here!
