Education

Edukid believes all children have the right to attend school and that education is the most effective, long-term solution to enabling individuals and communities to break out of their cycle of poverty.

Education for a brighter future

The children we support in Uganda, Cambodia and Peru face significant barriers to accessing quality education, which limits their opportunities and potential for a brighter future.

Edukid provides education to children living in chronic poverty, supporting them from primary school all the way up to university and vocational training.

By focusing on providing educational support, resources, and opportunities, we aim to empower children to overcome these obstacles and build a foundation for lifelong success.

Programmes Targeted to Community Needs

The educational challenges faced in each of the countries we work in are different. We strive to break down the barriers to education by working with local, community based organisations to develop effective and sustainable solutions.

Our work in Uganda

In Uganda, education is not free. A key challenge that families living in poverty face is a lack of money to pay school fees. As a result, many children experience interruptions in their education, with some never having the opportunity to attend school at all.

To overcome these challenges, Edukid supports these children by covering their school fees and providing them with uniforms and school materials. By removing this financial burden, we allow these children to fully focus on their education, without any obstacles.

Our work in Cambodia

In Cambodia, although education is free, many children living in poverty often attend school without the necessary resources, such as uniforms, books, pens, and even shoes. This lack of resources hinders their ability to learn effectively. Additionally, many schools are oversubscribed and under-resourced meaning children can only attend school in the morning or in the afternoon.

Edukid aims to address these issues by running supplementary education classes for the other half of their school day, providing support from a social worker and giving students the vital school resources to equip them for learning in a ‘school pack’.

Our work in Peru

In Peru, Edukid works with the indigenous Awajun community to help support children with their education. Although schooling in Peru is free, for many families buying resources such as books and pens is a barrier to students being able to attend school.

To remove this barrier and reduce the financial strain on families, Edukid are equipping each child with the educational resources needed to be able to learn, alongside school uniform and additional clothing.

Jeira, a young girl living in Northern Peru, tells her story of living alone and the challenges she faces in accessing education.
