Our work in Cambodia

Our projects in Cambodia focus on ensuring all children have the materials and tools to access education.

History of our work in Cambodia

Edukid started work in Cambodia in 2003 after a youth group visit highlighted the community’s wish for help in supporting their children to access education. Many of the children met during the youth group visit were living in slums, collecting rubbish for 10 pence a day and limited opportunities to get an education.

In Cambodia, school is free but thousands of children are still too poor to attend as they can’t afford the uniform, books and pens. Many schools are under resourced, meaning they have two sets of pupils – so children either attend school in the morning or in the afternoon. Consequently, even if a child can get the opportunity to go to school, their chances of changing the poverty that constrains them is limited.

Once a year, each child is supplied with a “school pack” that contains what they need to attend school for the year. All the clothing is individually sized to fit them. We also provide university scholarships, and have helped children become qualified nurses, doctors, accountants etc.

Our work is a partnership

We believe that sustainable, effective support for students must be shaped by those who truly understand the local context. That’s why we partner with Care for Cambodia – a trusted, NGO  in Cambodia. The Care for Cambodia team lives and works within the community, building relationships and gaining a genuine understanding of the daily challenges and opportunities faced by the young people we support.

Rather than imposing outside or ‘Western’ solutions, we are committed to listening to and learning from local voices. By working with Care for Cambodia, we ensure that our projects are culturally relevant, respectful, and based on the real needs identified by the community itself. This partnership model helps ensure long-term impact, as the support we offer is built on local knowledge, trust, and mutual respect.

Education is our core focus, however additional barriers must be broken down to allow students to thrive inside and outside of school. Learn more about our projects in Cambodia that break down the barriers students face.
