Access to clean water remains one of the biggest challenges for children in our projects. We are removing this a barrier, and providing children with clean, safe water.
Accessing clean water in an affordable manner, is an extremely difficult task for those living in chronic poverty in the rural communities we work with in Uganda and Cambodia
Many children miss days of school due to becoming unwell by drinking unsafe water, or by having to walk long distances to collect.
Edukid are tackling this barrier by providing clean, safe and accessible water through the use of boreholes and water filters. We are also providing education on hygiene and sanitation so every child can stay healthy and remain focused on their studies.

Many of the children we support in rural Uganda rely on unsafe water sources. A large number collect their water from local wells which are open water sources that are dug by the local community. This source of water is extremely unsafe, both due to the risk of contamination and dangerous collection methods. Others rely on spring water which although safer than the local well, still poses a risk of waterborne diseases. Children often have to walk long distances to collect their water.
Boreholes are a cleaner and more accessible solution. Edukid works with the local community to construct boreholes within the school grounds, so that children have access to clean and safe water.
The villages we support in Cambodia rely on unsafe water, particularly in areas prone to flooding. A large number of children collect their water from local rivers and this source of water is extremely unsafe, both due to the risk of contamination and dangerous collection methods.
Our work in Cambodia is centred around improving access to clean water and sanitation through two key programmes. We distribute water filters to ensure children and their families can access safe drinking water, and we run educational workshops on handwashing and sanitation to promote long-term health and well-being.
